Spray Chalk Resolution Approved

At its September 17th meeting, Student Senate approved a resolution in opposition to the use of spray chalk on campus. Senate will be working to revise and update the official poster and graffiti policies in the coming weeks. 08-09 009: Resolution Regarding the Use of Spray Chalk

Approved 9/17/09

WHEREAS, Student Senate Graffiti Policy approved chalking is part of the Carnegie Mellon campus culture, and

WHEREAS, spray chalk has been shown to not be easily removable by natural processes in the same manner as traditional chalk, and

WHEREAS, the removal of spray chalk poses an undue burden and cost on the Facilties Management Services (FMS), therefore

BE IT RESOLVED that the use of spray chalk does not adhere to the spirit of the Graffiti Policy, and

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that members of the campus community should not use spray chalk on any surface approved for chalking, and

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that Senate work with the Graduate Student Assembly to modify and update the graffiti and poster policies to reflect the spirit of this resolution.
