Enhance Your CMU Experience: Become a Member of the JFC

Every year, a small group of students has the opportunity to be a part of a life-changing process: deciding on the budgets for most of the student organizations on campus, and thereby playing a powerful role in deciding what the culture and atmosphere at Carnegie Mellon will be like in the following year. This opportunity is membership in the Joint Funding Committee (JFC).

Each semester, Carnegie Mellon students pay the Student Activities Fee, which is currently set at $92. Most of the revenue generated by this fee, or approximately $1.2 million, is given to the JFC-a committee composed only of students-to allocate to CMU student organizations.

While JFC membership is time-consuming and requires a lot of commitment, it will truly change your perspective of Carnegie Mellon, your engagement with the campus community, and your overall awareness of campus programming. You will be one of the most knowledgeable students on campus with regard to student organizations and events. If you are ready to take the leap and enhance your CMU experience, apply to become a member of the JFC.

Any student, graduate or undergraduate, who is currently enrolled at least half-time and has paid their Student Activities Fee, is eligible to apply for the opportunity to become a member of the JFC and to serve as a representative for at least 10 student groups who are seeking funding. Specifically, we are looking for 5-10 undergraduate students and 1-2 graduate students. An ideal candidate has experience serving as an elected officer in at least 1-2 student organizations at CMU, although anyone, including freshmen, with a strong interest in improving the campus community or in Student Government is encouraged to apply.

For more information and to download the application, please go to http://stugov.andrew.cmu.edu/jfc/apply/. Applications are due Friday, September 25, 2009 at 11:59pm.

The deadline for applications has been extended due to the disuptions cause by the G20 this past week.  Please see the JFC Application Page for more information.
